A guide to log briquettes:

Briquettes are simply a man made wood log, they are cheap, efficient, and extremely eco-friendly. Because of their low moisture content, they burn low on smoke, do not emit unsafe gases, and do not give off creosote. They meet the legal requirement of ‘Ready to Burn’ so will save you time and money maintaining your burner and the risk of a fine up to £1,000.

Our log briquettes are much easier to store and handle than both wood logs and coal.

How our briquettes are made:

Croft Log briquettes are a wood fuel that is made from 100% natural compressed and combustible sustainable woodchips.

Wood chipped organic material is dried, refined, and processed in our briquetting machine. In the machine it is compressed under high temperature to a desired shape and density by a pressing rod.

We use only sustainable and eco friendly material to make our logs therefore no trees are unnecessarily felled during this process.

We are continually exploring other materials to use as part of our innovation and improvement programme, so watch this space!

Modern advancements in wood fuel technology have allowed us to redevelop the traditional firewood log, which has been used for hundreds of years by our ancestors to create briquettes with properties far exceeding those of the wood they are made of. This results in a more cost effective and efficient way for you to heat your home, alongside being kind to your burner and flue and the environment.

Briquettes are high in energy density
Croft log briquettes have a very low moisture content and are produced under extreme pressure resulting in a high density log.  Therefore our logs contain more energy than the equivalent weight of traditional logs which are more cost effective and burn stronger for longer.

Briquettes are better for your health and the environment
The only fuel type that is more dense in energy than a briquette is coal.  However with the environment being an important agenda, more and more people are moving away from the use of coal due to the toxins it releases both into your home and the atmosphere.  Burning coal also has a severe impact on the lifespan of your chimney liner and how often you need your chimney swept, that is why many stove installers and chimney sweeps recommend Croft Logs.

By burning our briquettes you are actually reducing waste as the material we use, whilst it is 100% natural has been deemed unsuitable for the production of furniture, pallets etc and would end up in landfill.  Unlike the traditional firewood , no trees need to be specifically felled to produce our briquettes.

Our briquettes burn for longer and stronger than traditional firewood log
Modern technology has allowed us to develop a briquette that has properties that far exceed that of firewood.  Our briquettes are designed for a stronger and longer burn, which is more cost effective for the customer, reduces the need to tend the fire and if the burner is set up right the briquettes can burn long into the night reducing the need to get up to add extra logs.

Briquettes are easier to store and handle
Packaged in shrink wrapped plastic to reduce moisture content, our 6 or 7 log packs are easier and lighter to carry than traditional nets of firewood.  The packaging and quality of the logs also reduces mess in your car boot or home as lower quality briquettes tend to break up and traditional firewood loses its bark.

Our briquette logs are packed flat so can be easily stored and stacked on top of each other and unlike coal our briquettes are clean so there is no worry about staining your hands, carpets or clothes.

Briquettes are more cost effective
As our briquettes are made from wood that is not suitable for manufacturing our wood briquettes are very cost effective and affordable.

We offer a variety of ways to purchase our briquettes from individual packs of 6 or 7 logs to quarter, half, three quarter and full pallets.  When purchased in bulk for the season our briquettes are far more economical.

Are Croft Log briquettes for me?
Croft Log briquettes are the perfect replacement for traditional firewood.  They burn for longer and emit a stronger heat, they are very simple to light and require very minimal tending.

Our briquettes are also very diverse, you can use them to heat your home all year round, simply adjust the number of briquettes you use with the weather or in the summer they can be used on firepits, pizza ovens or to heat wood fired hot tubs.

Sustainability/Eco Friendly

All of our logs are made from 100% natural wood chippings and sawdust. Our logs are so well made there is no need for any chemical binding agents or lighting fuels.

Our logs come highly recommended by local chimney sweeps and burner installers due to their exceptionally low moisture content resulting in a smokeless burn which increases the longevity of the burner and chimney liners.

The wood we source is 100% sustainable timber. We also work closely with the local forestry commission to recycle Larch trees which have been felled in order to prevent the spread of the disease.  The heat we use in the production of our logs kills the disease spores and allows us to use wood that would otherwise have gone to waste.

All of our materials are sourced with 25 miles of Croft Logs HQ as we believe greatly in supporting local businesses and reducing the carbon footprint of transportation.

Stronger heat output

All our Croft Log range burn at a moderately high temperature when compared to that of traditional logs.

Longer burn time

A well built fire with one of our logs (small about of kindling and two fire lighters) can provide you with a consistent heat for up to 9 hours.

Ready To Burn Status

We are proud to have ‘Ready to Burn’ status which is the UK’s leading fuelwood accreditation programme.

In order to be ‘Ready to Burn’ compliant all our logs must have a moisture content of less than 20%. Our briquettes have a moisture content of 8% and lower  The standard was introduced to prevent people from burning wet, freshly cut or poorly seasoned wood as this releases harmful compounds into the atmosphere.  The most potent of these compounds being creosote, a highly cancerogenic substance that is also a fire and explosive hazard when it pollutes your chimney.

Our compliance with the accreditation is conducted via a third party company approved by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Our logs have a minimal moisture content that burns cleanly with minimal smoke prolonging the build up of soot and tar in your flue.

In 2022 it became mandatory for all wood fuels to be registered as ‘Ready to Burn’ and we are proud to display the logo prominently on all our packaging.  Don’t get caught out by burning cheaper, wet wood as you could be fined up to £1,000.  Give Croft Logs a call today to see how we can help you be ‘Ready to Burn’ too!
